Voting correctly on American Idol is extremely important because one small mistake can mean your vote does not count. Fans can vote through the official website, SMS text, and official social media voting posts when voting is open. ABC says online voting is available at AmericanIdol.com/Vote, by SMS text, and through pinned official voting posts on Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok.

Step 1: Watch for the contestant’s official number.
During the show, each contestant is given a voting number. Do not guess the number. Wait until it appears on screen or is confirmed by the official American Idol page.
Step 2: Vote online.
Go to the official voting page, sign in or create an account, choose your contestant, and submit your votes. Online voting registration is for viewers 16+ located in the U.S., Puerto Rico, or the Virgin Islands.
Step 3: Vote by text.
Text the contestant’s correct number to 21523. Make sure you only send the number assigned to your contestant.
Step 4: Vote on social media.
Comment on the pinned official voting post for that night on American Idol’s Facebook, Instagram, or TikTok. Social voting requires users to be 18+ and located in the U.S.
Step 5: Vote before the window closes.
Only votes submitted during the official voting window count. Do not wait until the last minute.
Most important rule: vote carefully, double-check the contestant’s name or number, and use only official voting methods. Tonight, one correct vote could be the difference between a contestant staying in the competition or going home.
